I use both elements found in nature (tornados, fire, water, wind) and elements found in everyday life (house, cup, phone) to explore conflict. But the act of creating (about conflict) is both meditation and purge, discovery and echo. The resulting piece itself is less important than the process–the ritual of making and finding meaning in repetitive marks/strokes or the uncovering of resonance.
I received my MFA (with an emphasis on painting and textiles) from the University of Michigan, Stamps School of Art and Design, and my BFA (in painting and sculpture) from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan. Additionally, I was an artist-in-residence at the Karlsruhe Akademie den Bildenden Kunst (Karlsruhe Academy of Fine Arts), in Karlsruhe, Germany.
